What is biodiesel

Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel produced from vegetable oils or animal fats. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended with petroleum based diesel at any level. It can be used in most diesel engines with no major modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, Soy Bean Plantnontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. Biodiesel provides 3.24 units of energy for every unit of energy needed to produce it. This is the highest energy balance of any fuel. By comparison, one unit of petroleum diesel provides .83 units of energy for every unit of energy needed to produce it.

Biodiesel is registered as a fuel and a fuel additive with the Environmental Protection Agency and also meets clean diesel standards established by the California Air Resources Board. It has been designated as an alternative fuel by the Department of Energy and the US Department of Transportation. Biodiesel produces less pollution and research shows that biodiesel emissions have decreased levels of all target polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and nitrated PAH compounds.
